IED Simulator

IED Simulator is a Simulation Platform, that enables System and Development Engineers to simulate and test different IEC 61850 system configurations, models etc., quickly and cost effectively, without being experts in IEC61850. This also helps Engineers to complete development activities without the availability of physical IEDs.

IED Simulator is a IEC 61850 based Software tool that allows User to Simulate User defined events and Monitor activities of multiple IEC 61850 based IEDs. Input to IED Simulator is any Standard third party System Configuration (SCL) XML File. IED Simulator can configure itself as  multiple IEC 61850 IEDs based on input SCL File and communicate with external IEC 61850 Clients, GOOSE and Sampled Value Systems.

IED Simulator takes away the complexity of the IEC 61850 from Engineers and provides user friendly graphical interface for simulation and hierarchical view of System Configurations in terms of IEC 61850. It allows users to simulate different types of IEDs using ICD files, and whole IEC 61850 system using SCD Files. IED Simulator also allows user to link different IEDs & its data by simulating GOOSE Publishing and Subscription Events.

IED Simulator enables testing different protection schemes via User defined Scripts for an IED Configuration. It also facilitates minimal Simulation of Sampled Value Publisher making User to get a feel of Merging Unit functionality. Easy to Use Graphical Views allows user to test IEC 61850 Systems with a very minimal knowledge of detailed IEC 61850 standard.

IED Simulator provides following features
  • Simulation of standard IEC 61850-6 SCL files (SCD, ICD, CID etc)
  • Supports all Logical Nodes and Common Data Classes defined in IEC 61850 Ed. 1 & Ed. 2
  • Substation, Hydro, Wind and DER Model Support
  • Multiple IEDs Simulation
  • Supports all IEC 61850 8-1 Communication Models (IEC 61850 Server and GOOSE)
  • IED Configuration handling as Project Files
  • Tree based view of IEC 61850 whole communication System
  • Separate Network and User Configuration for each IED
  • Data Simulation using User Interfaces and VB Scripts
  • Runtime Start, Stop and Reconfiguration options for Selected IEDs
