Communication Solutions
Kalkitech SYNC consists of a suite of products that provide field-to-enterprise communication enablers for the Energy Sector, based on Kalkitech’s policy of promoting open standards and standards based solutions. SYNC enables seamless and secure communication aiding interoperability in Power Generation, Transmission and Distribution. SYNC solutions have been widely used across the globe in T&D Automation, Substation monitoring and control, Metering / AMI etc. for nearly a decade and are positioned to facilitate the Smart Grid of the future.

SYNC comprises of the following major product suites:

Field level Gateways for protocol and IO solutions: Hardware protocol-in-a-box solutions that provide any-to-any protocol conversions delivered as a single software solution available in a range of substation-hardened hardware configurations to suit every requirement from a simple pole top monitor with 1 modem-channel and some I/O to a 16-channel multi-protocol data concentrator/converter. The different product models vary in processing power, storage capabilities, number of channels and types of channels to suit different requirements. However they present a singular front end via the SYNC Configuration and Engineering tool (SYNC7000) to the user.

Data Center level Data Acquisition solutions: Front End Processors, Heavy duty Data Concentrators/Converters, 1000-PMU Phasor Data Concentrators, ICCP Bridge servers, AMR/AMI/AMM systems, OPC Servers for strap-on protocol Data Acquisition solutions etc. for Data Center / Control Center use. These applications are mostly hosted on high-end Server class machines with a stable Linux operating system. The OPC-enabled DA products are hosted on Windows systems and tested on a variety of platforms from simple PCs to large Servers.

Enterprise level connectivity solutions: Process data/model exchange solutions based on an Enterprise Integration Bus which provides high QoS publish/subscribe mechanisms to distribute data across an Enterprise network. The solution provides built-in full connectivity to the entire SYNC products suite and additionally offers adapters to connect non-SYNC applications for bi-directional data transfer. The solution also supports open standards based models like CIM for interoperable data exchange.

Configuration and Engineering: SYNC supports Kalkitech’s concept of a unified approach to building a communication solution by providing a common front-end to all the SYNC products. SYNC7000 acts as a Configuration and Engineering tool, diagnostics and trouble shooting tool and a minimal HMI that can configure individual SYNC product nodes just as well as it can configure an entire SYNC network.

Source Code Libraries and IP Licensing: Kalkitech in conjunction with its partners licenses Intellectual property in the form of field-proven source code libraries for a variety of open standards including Modbus, DLMS/COSEM, DNP3, IEC-60870-5-101,103,104, IEC-61850, ICCP etc to customers that require such implementations on their products. Kalkitech also provides value added implementation services for these protocols as well as proprietary/custom protocols (See Engineering & Automation Services / protocol services).

Tools: SYNC Tools provide scriptable testing engines for a variety of communication protocols that enable customers to validate their protocol implementations.
